What is Boondi?

Boondi comes from a song my grandmother, affectionately known as Big Granny, used to sing to us grandkids when we were little and it only seemed fitting to use it for this little endeavor.

My goal with Boondi is to use all-natural, organic, ingredients with as little plastic and imported goods as possible. This not only includes our soap, but all of our products we offer. I believe good, healthy products should be accessible to everyone regardless of financial status. These are luxury items at a modest price. If you need financial assistance with buying my soap, contact me.

My Big Granny is pictured here with her family. She’s the first lady to the left on the bottom row. She was a firecracker.

FAQs

Do you use lye in your soap?

Yes. Soap requires 3 things to be considered soap: oil, water, and sodium hydroxide, commonly known as lye.

When properly mixed together a process occurs called “saponification” in which the lye and water mixture reacts with the oils, creating soap!

Although sodium hydroxide alone can be dangerous if used improperly, there’s no danger when used properly in soap making.

Can you teach me how to make soap?

Yes! I would love to! check out the “soap making” tab and see which option is best for you!

Do you use artificial fragrances?

I hate artificial fragrances. They give me a headache. I typically do not use them unless requested and I’ll always list what ingredients I use so you’ll know exactly what you’re getting.

Are your products vegan?

Unless otherwise stated yes. The only exception would be beeswax which is used in some of our lotion bars to retain moisture.

Can’t I just make soap with drain opener from the hardware store?

This question makes me squirm. No. For the love of God. No.

There are surprisingly a lot of soap-makers who will attempt to save a few bucks by using lye that’s not considered food safe and is instead, typically used to open drains. This is bad news, because industrial lye can contain all kinds of impurities you do not want on your skin.

When you buy Boondi soaps rest assured that we always use food grade lye in our soap.

If you chose not to buy our soap, (which would be an obvious mistake, but okay) the first question you should ask is, “Do you use food grade lye in your soap?”
